Ferrari have shut down rumours that the team have gained 30hp in engine performance through better reliability for 2023.
An engine freeze introduced in 2022 meant some manufactures chose to risk reliability as they pushed for the best possible performance.
Ferrari admitted last year that they prioritised performance over reliability – the prancing horse suffered multiple DNFs due to engine troubles.
This led to the team turning down its power unit, with them working hard over the winter to improve reliabilty.
And speculation grew that the team could be set for a 30hp leap forward by making their power unit more durable.
But Ferrari’s new team principal Frederic Vasseur has laughed off the claims as he revealed the work the team have done to improve reliability.
He was quoted by Autosport as saying: “I don’t know where the numbers are coming from, but it’s just a joke. We made some step but it’s just about reliability.
“I think the performance last year of the engine was not an issue at all. The issue was the reliability and the first target is to fix it.
“So far it looks okay. But the reality of the track is a different aspect.”
